about
Written by Ciarán Mac Giolla, in Derry 2011.
Dhá thaobh or 'two sides' is a conversation between a man and a woman, both lovers. In the first verse the woman tells the man to leave her and never come back- to go somewhere peaceful across the mountains.
The chorus states that sometimes in life people help us while others are out to do us ill- that we receive blessings and insults but it doesn't matter as long as we are happy.
In the second verse the woman is telling her lover to come home, "somewhere familliar", "somewhere I can hug you", "over the hill", where they can make a new start. This song highlights the sometimes complex emotions of love and the confusion that can become of a love affair, imigh, imigh, imigh (leave, leave leave).
lyrics
Imigh, imigh, imigh, A deir sí liom,
Í bhfad ar shiúl, í bhfad ó seo,
Go háit níos suaimhní, í bhfad ó seo,
Trasna an tsléibhe, agus fán ann
Áit nach mbéidh mé abalta tú a fháil ann,
Áit nach mbéidh mé abalta tú a cloiseadh,
Áit a mbeidhfeá sámh í dó craiceann féin,
Áit a mbeidhfeá abalta dearmad a dhéanamh
Bíonn daoine ag imirt in éineacht leat,
Bíonn daoine ag imirt í do gcoinne,
Faighimid beannacht is faighimid masla,
Ach is cuma, fad is atá muid cróga/ sásta
Fill, fill, fill, a deir sí liom,
Fada siar, Ar ais anseo,
Go áit níos ansa, ar ais anseo,
Trasna an tsléibhe, chun tús nua a dhéanamh
Bíonn daoine ag imirt in éineacht leat,
Bíonn daoine ag imirt í do gcoinne,
Faighimid beannacht is faighimid masla,
Ach is cuma, fad is atá muid cróga/ sásta
